The Irving Fire Department has 369 fire personnel including civilian employees and a general fund budget of $42 million. It provides response to fire, medical, extrication, hazardous materials, and other emergencies on a 24 hour per day basis from 11 strategically located stations.
The Fire Department operates 11 engine companies, four aerial truck companies and nine Mobile Intensive Care Units.
The Irving Fire Department became the first fire department in the state of Texas to complete and be awarded Best Practices Recognition status by the Texas Fire Chiefs Association (TFCA) in 2014. Irving Fire Chief Victor Conley, who has nearly 30 years of Fire Department experience, was named the Texas Fire Chiefs Association 2013 Texas Fire Chief of the Year.
A new Fire Station will soon be coming to Irving. Station No. 12 is currently in the works and is scheduled to be ready to operate in 2017. A new Engine, Ambulance and the first Tiller Truck in Irving will operate out of this fire station. A second Tiller Truck will be assigned to Fire Station No. 3.
Irving Fire Department Awarded Best Practices Recognition Status by the Texas Fire Chiefs Association (TFCA)
On Jan. 6, 2014, the Irving Fire Department received the award and designation of “Recognized Best Practices Fire Department” from the Texas Fire Chiefs Association Best Practices Recognition Program. Irving becomes the first department in the state of Texas to achieve this status.
TFCA Past President and current chair of the TFCA Best Practices Recognition Board, Chief Robert Isbell noted, “The Irving Fire Department has long been known as a great example to follow in the fire service. It is with great pride that the first recognized “Best Practices” department is just such a legacy department. The TFCA Executive Board would like to congratulate Chief Conley and the entire Irving Fire Department for their dedication to our profession in undertaking the Best Practices Recognition program. IFD has set the bar for the fire service in Texas.”
