  1. Beat the Heat with a Cool Cat! Free Adoptions All July

    July 3, 2018 - July 31, 2018 @ Irving Animal Care Campus

    The Irving Animal Care Campus is filled with great pets looking for their dream homes. Animal Services is extending its Adopt-a-Cat month special, waiving adoption fees for cats one year and older; kittens are available for a $50 adoption fee. Vaccinations, spay/neuter, leukemia test and microchip included with all cat adoptions.

    All adoptions must be processed 30 minutes before closing.

Aquatics

  1. Red Cross Lifeguard Class

    July 19, 2018, 8:00 AM - July 21, 2018, 6:30 PM @ North Lake Natatorium

    Want to learn skills that will help you save lives? Become a certified lifeguard.

    Prerequisite: Minimum age 15. Successful skills test, which includes 300-yard continuous swim; a 10-pound brick retrieval from 7 to 10 feet depth of water followed by a 20-yard return carrying the brick; and treading water for two minutes without using hands. Test must be completed one week before class or must have instructor approval.

    Successful completion of the course will result in American Red Cross Life Guard/First Aid, CPR-Professional Rescuer, and AED certifications.

    The exhibition aims to explore the idea of travel and American culture through interactive photography. Vernacular photographs taken in the 1950s and ‘60s are featured and paired with contemporary photographs Natalie Slater shot along the modern day Route 66, from the same locations and vantage points. The images are backlit and overlaid inside interactive light boxes to create a unique road trip experience, with a view towards both past and present. Exhibit located in Carpenter Lobby. Gallery Hours: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., Thursday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday 1 to 5 p.m., Sunday

  4. One Act Play Contest, Irving Parks and Recreation

    Cheer on young thespians, ages 7 to 17, from Irving Parks and Recreation Department’s summer drama classes who will perform in short, one-act plays. These students have been encouraged to develop their artistic voices while learning about all aspects of drama and the fundamentals of acting. Awards will be presented for best play, actor and actress.

    Directed by B.J. Cleveland, MainStage brings a classic comedy by Moss Hart and George S. Kaufman to the stage. The central figure in the story, Newton Fuller, just wants “a little place in the country to call his own.” Despite disgust from his city-slicker wife and daughter, Newton drags his family out to their own personal “Green Acres,” a wreck of a homestead with broken windows, falling plaster and a cow in the kitchen. But with a little bit of faith and a lot of guts, maybe Newton can make this house into a home?

  1. Nike Basketball Camp for Boys

    July 16, 2018 - July 20, 2018 @ Senter Park Recreation Center

    For boys ages 8-16.

    Participants will receive:

    • Daily emphasis on fundamental development, team play and basketball IQ.
    • Focus on strength and conditioning, shooting technique and positional work.
    • Off-court discussions and activities to enhance on-court game.
    In addition, camp participants will receive a Nike Basketball Camp T-shirt, workbook, wristband and more.

    Camp is directed by Charles Stoker of Pro Level Training.
